NASA：北極海冰萎縮放緩

（法新社華盛頓21日電） 美國國家航空暨太空總署（NASA）的數據顯示，今年夏季北極海冰消融的速度放緩，覆蓋面積持續大於去年破紀錄的最小面積。

NASA昨天指出，緯度最北地區今年夏天出現異常低溫，海冰消融到剩下510萬平方公里。

這項分析是依據NASA及美國國家冰雪資料中心（National Snow and Ice Data Center， NSIDC）9月13日的資料。

2012年9月16日，北極海冰消融到剩下341萬平方公里，約是過去20年平均最小面積的一半，也是衛星紀錄到的最小面積。

根據NSIDC，1970年代末期以來，北極海冰的面積每10年都萎縮12%，海冰消融速度在2007年後惡化。

馬里蘭州格林貝（Greenbelt）NASA哥達德太空飛行中心（Goddard Space Flight Center）的冰川學家麥爾（Walt Meier）表示：「我就預期今年會比去年高。」

麥爾說：「海冰面積萎縮至低點後，總是會有個增加回補的趨勢。從衛星資料看來，北極海冰面積從來沒有連續數年縮至紀錄低點。」

但整體看來，北極海冰覆蓋面積較先前數十年萎縮多達50%。

哥達德太空飛行中心的專家柯米索（Joey Comiso）表示：「按照這樣的速度，北極夏季的海冰可能這個世紀就會完全消失。」（譯者：中央社林亭儀）
